Waldorf First Grade Teacher Fall 2015
Woodland Charter School, in beautiful Murphy, Oregon, is seeking a dynamic first grade teacher for the 2015-2016 school year. We seek an experienced Waldorf teacher to join our harmonious faculty of Waldorf-trained main lesson teachers (and developing special subjects teachers) in a public Waldorf-methods 1st through 8th grade charter school. We offer a competitive public school teacher’s salary with step increases, and a benefits package that includes paid sick leave, medical, dental and vision coverage, and a pension plan. Paid professional development opportunities are offered.
Our school community will welcome you to wonderful southern Oregon, where the living is affordable and the land is beautiful and varied. We are one-two hours from: Crater Lake, the Stout Grove (giant redwoods), the Oregon Coast, and the Pacific Crest Trail, with many accessible high peaks. Our amazing local river systems offer rafting, kayaking, and swimming for water enthusiasts. Biodynamic and organic farms abound in this temperate zone, and we have many farmers in our school community.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field and a Waldorf certificate. Additionally, Oregon licensure and a Master’s degree in education will ensure a higher salary. Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire for warm collegiality with educational peers- and equally warm relationships with families and children- are vital characteristics that will ensure a good fit with our school community. Effective classroom management, combined with a penetrating insight into the pedagogy of Waldorf education- these are key components that we seek in a first grade teacher.
Our school, which opened in October 2012 with 60 students, expects an enrollment of 150 students in September 2015 in grades 1- 8. Grades 1, 2, 3 and 8 will be stand-alone classes with 25 students each. Grades 4-5 and 6-7 will be combined classes, also with 25 students each. Our curriculum includes the following special subjects: Spanish Language, Music (includes choral singing and string instruments), Handwork, Woodworking, Games/Movement and Gardening.
