Linda Johanson

(Hummingbird Class, 6th Grade)

Linda Johanson is the class teacher of the Hummingbird class (currently 6th grade) at Woodland Charter School. Linda moved from the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont to a beautiful organic farm in Williams, Oregon when she joined the school in July, 2017, and is very excited to be part of this dynamic and inspired faculty and school community. Linda graduated from the University of Aarhus, Denmark with a B.A. in English in 1990 and completed her Waldorf teacher training at Rudolf Steiner Skolen in Aarhus in 1992. She taught high school English and art in Scandinavian Waldorf schools for a decade while a bio-dynamic farmer living and working in Denmark. Linda was also a Waldorf teacher, administrator and co-founder of the first farm-based residential community for children with autism in Denmark from 1988 to 1995. As a Waldorf student herself in her youth, Linda attended the bucolic Sacramento Waldorf School, and pastoral Michael Hall Waldorf School in Sussex, England where she fell in love with Shakespeare, gardening and dairy farming. After raising her family in Denmark, Linda began her Waldorf class teaching journey in the USA in Bellingham, Washington in 1995. She has taught in the first through eighth grades for 22 years in the States. Linda’s work as a Waldorf teacher and bio-dynamic farmer in Washington, Wisconsin, New York and Vermont is inspired by the principles of place-based education and generative practices inherent in the Waldorf curriculum.
