About

Woodland Charter School began its journey in 2009 with a small group of parents in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon seeking educational options for their children. Almost immediately, they were drawn to the nurturing environment and holistic education offered by a Waldorf education. After years of tenacious work and extensive fundraising in the community, Woodland Charter School opened its doors in the fall of 2012. We currently have grades 1-8. We look forward to offering kindergarten in the future.

Woodland Charter School, tuition-free and open to all students, is part of a worldwide movement to make Waldorf educational philosophy more accessible by bringing it to the public school system. Woodland is part of the Three Rivers School District (TRSD) but has a Charter Council which sets policies and oversees the administration of the school, allowing a certain level of autonomy, creativity, and flexibility. The vision of the Woodland Charter School is to provide an alternative school choice for local families while creating a school community environment that attends to the needs of the whole child. Recognizing the whole child in the educational program is the first step toward laying the foundation necessary for each student to continue the lifelong educational process.

Woodland is open to all students and so attracts students from a relatively wide geographical area of Southern Oregon – largely the Applegate Valley and the greater Grants Pass area. As a tuition-free, public school, there are no financial barriers to enrollment – bringing Waldorf inspired education to a wider segment of the population. Woodland Charter School has a very strong commitment to equal access and treatment for all students and staff,  free from any prejudice, discrimination or harassment based on race, color, age, religion, military service, handicap, disability, national origin, citizenship status, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status or any other reason prohibited by applicable law. Our curriculum supports a multicultural approach that includes racial, ethnic and religious diversity. Many belief systems are studied with utmost respect for all. We try to emphasize and support the local farming culture, local history, and the stories of the indigenous people of the region.
